My final Double Page Spread and Evaluation

This is my final double page spread. I've included the masthead and the white/grey strap line underneath which I've taken from the front cover and placed onto the contents page and also this double page spread. Personally I think this double page spread goes well with the rest of the magazine, the three main colors are still being presented and shown clearly on both of the pages. The puff in the top right hand side on the right page has been used to grab the readers attention and inform them on more information about the musician, with the background being black and white I chose the puff to have the body a white color and the text to be red and black. The big R which has been placed on the left hand side of the double page spread is in the bold red which reflects on the bold masthead on the front page, which is why I chose to do the musicians first initial in. The text I included onto the right hand side is placed in a white box which covers the R, which I wanted to happen, and made sure that the question was in red and the answer was in black. This final double page spread of the magazine shows that I have been consistent with my design and brought all the techniques I used on the front page and the contents page and put them all into this final double page.

My final Contents Page and my own Evaluation

This is my final contents page that I have created. I personally think that it goes well with the theme of the magazine and fits well into the target audience, as I've continued to use the three main colors with the numbers of the pages being red and the text being white. Also the background is white which allows all the text and photographs stand out better and grasp the viewers attention. I have made to include the masthead of the magazine onto this page as I think it makes it look a lot more professional than to not have it, not only the masthead but I've also made sure to carry on the white strap line at the top of the page, underneath the masthead to keep the professional and presentable look.

My evaluation of my front cover

This is my final front cover and as you can see I have included a lot of the conventions seen on most real magazines around the world. The masthead is one thing which stands out a lot for me as it's big and bold which will automatically catch the audiences attention, also the fact that it's a striking color such as red, it will grasp the attention of people much easier than if the color were to have been a dull grey or black. Keeping to the red color I have included red text to go with the cover lines. I also chose white the cover lines as my three main colors I chose for my magazine were red, black and white. As the background is black I chose to do my text in white and red which I personally think makes the magazine look effective. Furthermore I wanted to include some text within separate white boxes to add more emphasis to the front cover as it makes the page look a lot more modern, and by also making them slanted it allows the audience to go from one block to another. I've included twitter and facebook logos to inform the audience that they are able to find 'Trash Magazine' on social networking sites, due to them being popular with my target audience. Not only that, I've also included a blackberry bbm scanning code to allow Trash readers to add us on the one of the most popular social chat rooms available all around the world, it will allow more people to get an inside look even quicker than logging onto Facebook and Twitter.

''What type of colors would you expect/like on a pop/punk music magazine?''

Ella: The type of colors I would see on this genre magazine are mostly blacks and reds, because most pop punky magazines I have read contain a lot of dark colors but they brighten it up with the use of the red's and also white's

Mum: Well when I was your age I read punk magazines which did contain mostly dark colors such as blacks, dark blues and also purples. However they did also contain some bright colors just to make it not so much a 'goth' magazine.

''How much would you expect a weekly/monthly magazine to be?''

Katy: Well when I look at weekly magazines they tend to have about 20-30 pages in them which are around the price of £1.50 and I think that is personally a respectable amount to pay for a weekly magazine. And for a monthly magazine which are usually about 50-60 pages long they're normally around the price of £2.50-£4, I think £4 is a little bit too high but anything under that is alright.

Dad: I don't tend to purchase music magazines anymore, only the newspaper, however when I was around your age I purchased a monthly magazine which was around the price of £3.

This image shows my contents page, it's not finished just yet as I need to add more pages and pictures which will be put onto it soon. I think at the moment the page itself looks rather professional and well laid out as it's not all cramped like some music magazines are.

This is an image of what my double page spread might look like, I've included the magazine logo and the white line strip as it is on every page so there are some similarities.

This image shows that I've done a second mock up of my contents page, it includes the information about the text font and the color of the text and background. Again in this mock up I've also kept the white strip underneath the masthead and will take it through to the double page spread also to keep up with the theme of the magazine.

Mock up 1

This is my first mock up idea of what my magazine might look like. The font I've used in this mock up will hopefully be the font that I will be using for the masthead and the subheadings. This won't be my final idea of what the magazine will look like, I'll be creating more mock ups to get an idea of what I want it to look like and what it will hopefully look like when I've finished.

This is one of my front cover picture I will be using, first off I was planning on doing a pop magazine but it came out more 'punk' then pop. Therefore I'm going to fit the magazine to the picture genre that has come out, the colours of the magazine will link to the colours of the picture so... Black, white and red will be the main colours within my magazine.

Dear Blog

I need to update my blog with some multimedia products, for example a video from youtube of a 'pop' music video to help me know what type of things to include. It will help me get a better understanding of the 'pop' generation.

Genre Mood Board

This image show's all sorts of different music bands and soloists that I can take into consideration when deciding what type of magazine I'll be creating. Personally I think the genre that stands out the most is the 'Pop' group 'One Direction'. They're a world wide sell out band that already have over 3 number 1's which puts into prospect how good the Pop genre are doing in the stores.

This is also a mood board/collage of the pop group I was first talking about in the previous paragraph, this show's that the audience of the magazine would be most likely aged between 11-18, depending on my own research of people that enjoy the pop magazines themselves.

Pop Artist Mood Board

This is an image of a Pop Artist Mood Board that I've created to represent all the current pop artists that are about now in the charts. This allows me to get an idea of what the 'pop artists' look like and appear like to the public eye. This also gives me an idea of what I could do to make the best possible outcome of my magazine.

Format Research 3

This double page spread is a great example as it has all the features of a proper magazine. The colours link with each other, for example the colours are the same on both pages, the use of pink make the main aspects of the image stand out a lot as it is the only bright colour being used. Also the fact that some of the font is in italic, shows that it is for a more formal audience

This is one of the pages within 'The Lady' that I found really striking and interesting due to the unique layout of the page. The colours around the two main pictures of the women are very calm and relaxed as they aren't that bright, the allow the two pictures of the woman to have full focus. Also I like how the second picture of the blonde woman is overlapping the first picture of the woman in the mirror like design.

I like this front cover because of the contrast of colours, the bright red and bright blue made me notice it immediately... Furthermore I also like the fact that the masthead is lapping over the picture of the woman, it brings more emphasis to the title so the observer can see it clearly

The heading for our magazine is bright and big which is clear for the observer to see and informs them to know what the magazine is about. Furthermore, the fact that it isn't formal shows that it is informal and for the younger years for school.

This image shows the final outcome of mine and Sam's magazine that we worked on together during class and free time. Te colours for me represent the atmosphere of the school and also the schools colours.

School Magazine (google) Example 2

This design is very basic but basic in this circumstance is good as the text informs the viewer/reader what is inside the booklet and it will immediately attract both genders because of the simplicity of the design. However, something that the designer could if done is make the background a lot busier and more interesting because it can make first impressions bad and effect the amount of people that actually read the magazine.

School Magazine (google)

This magazine front cover I found on google is one of my favourite examples. I like how the creator of the front cover used unisex colours to attract both the male and female audience, the text on the cover of this magazine is big and eye capturing! This draws the reader in and makes them know what it is inside the magazine. Furthermore, I also like the image on the cover as it is basic but effective because it shows average students doing what they normally do any working lesson.

Magazine Search

Our teacher has set us tasks to search for other School Magazine covers so we can get an idea of what ours should be like. When looking at these magazines we have to analyse the cover and talk about what we see and what effect it has on the audience.

Preliminary Task

I have been set my Prliminary Task which is to design a school magazine front cover, I'll be creating this with my partner Sam. The software we'll be using will be InDesign, as I know how to use it already I'll be able to help Sam with how to use all the software. The title of our school magazine will be 'Mizzy Kidz' as it is more of a modern way of saying 'The Misbourne School' as the audience we want to attract will be our age and will be able too interact with the information we post.
